Hydration gives you healthy skin
Water is essential for maintaining skin’s moisture and elasticity. Without enough water, you’re faced with dehydration, which can cause the skin to become dry, dull and prone to premature aging. Drinking water keeps the skin hydrated, plump and radiant, and can ever reduce the fine lines and wrinkles. What’s more, drinking water nourishes nail beds from within, promoting strong, healthy nails!
Water has a cooling effect
Proper hydration prevents the body from overheating and helps the body sweat efficiently, particularly after exercising or spending time outdoors in the hot summer. Without that cooling and sweating, you can run the risk of heat exhaustion and heatstroke.
It’s detoxifying
Water plays a vital role in flushing out toxins and waste from the body. Staying hydrated supports kidney function and can promote clear and healthy skin.
Drinking water boosts energy and mental clarity
Feeling sluggish and foggy? That could be dehydration calling. Not drinking enough water can lead to fatigue, lethargy and impaired cognitive function. Staying hydrated, on the other hand, helps maintain energy levels, improves focus and enhances mental clarity, keeping you feeling refreshed and alert. So maybe swap out your morning coffee for a big glass of water instead!
We know, we know; water isn’t your beverage of choice. It’s not for many people. But the benefits are so significant that we have to find ways to keep sipping. Here are a few of our favorite tips:
1. Infuse Your Water
If plain water doesn’t do it for you, add natural flavors to it to make it more palatable. Think: slices of lemon, cucumber, berries or herbs like mint or basil. Get creative!
2. Drink Herbal Tea
Herbal teas are a sugar-free (as long as you don’t add it), caffeine-free way of consuming more water. Drink it hot or make a large pot, let it cool, and add ice cubes for a refreshing beverage. Cold peach herbal tea on a hot summer day is delightful and hydrating!
3. Buy a BIG Water Bottle
Oversized travel water bottles are everywhere these days, and they’re perfect for making sure that you’re getting in all your sips. If you’re not a big water drinker already, start small by challenging yourself to finish one large bottle each day. Gradually work your way up until you’re drinking about half your body weight in fluid ounces each day.
4. Set Reminders
Despite our best efforts, sometimes we simply forget to drink water throughout the day, especially if it’s not already a habit. Set reminders on your phone or use a hydration-tracking app to prompt you to drink fluids throughout the day.
