Gelish Dean of Education Vu Nguyen is a seasoned nail artist, award-winning competitor and skilled tattoo artist. Known for his expertise in nail enhancements and intricate nail art, Vu’s work has been featured in numerous Gelish campaigns and on the covers of top nail magazines around the globe. SalonCentric ProBeauty Central caught up with Vu to dive into his career journey, creative inspiration and discover what sets him apart as an artist and nail industry icon.

How long have you been doing nails?

I’ve been doing nails and nail art for about 23 years now.

What’s your style of nail art?

The style of nail art I do is a mix between tattoo and anime art.

What was one of your favorite sets of nails you’ve done?

The most fun set of nails I’ve ever done were Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl nails. I like football and I’ve been living in Kansas City for over 10 years, so this was fun.

Is there a career win that stands out to you?

The very first time I did a nail competition, there was a lot of stuff going on. I was very intimidated—but I won! Having that moment in my very first competition gave me the confidence to do things I was uncomfortable doing.

What do you think will be the next trend in nails?

With products being so easily accessible now, I feel like the DIY type of nail art is really going to blow up. I feel like people who are doing their nails themselves at home are going to want more than just a solid color, and they’re going to be creative all on their own.
