Secrets Of
Trade Show
Success
Considering traveling to a trade show this year? Use these tips to make sure that you make the most of it.

Trade show attendance took a dip during Covid, but now they’re back in all their product and educational glory! And if you haven’t been to one in a while, perhaps it’s time to start planning. While there certainly can be a hefty cost associated with attending a show, especially if travel is involved, they’re also invaluable to boosting your business. Here, we give you the top five ways to make the most of your next nail show to ensure that you’re getting all the bang for your buck.

1. Plan your education schedule.

The best beauty shows offer a slew of education, and nothing beats in-person classes. Most of them are free with the cost of your ticket, but there are often paid classes held either before or after the show dates that provide real hands-on, in-depth education — even offering CEUs. Make a plan ahead of time to create a list of classes that you don’t want to miss. It’s also a good idea to include a few backups in case you have extra time to spend.

2. Make a list of exhibitors.

Start by listing your current list of suppliers, and visit them first to stock up on products that you use every day, as well as to see any new offerings. Then make a list of the brands you’re interested in learning more about. As it gets closer to the show date, you can usually download a copy of the show floor and map out the booth numbers so you don’t waste your time wandering around aimlessly (save that for when you’ve crossed off everything on your to-do list!).

3. Give yourself a manicure.

Before you arrive, make sure to remove anything that you have on your nails and give yourself a manicure. Going to a show with clean nails allows you to get demos from the different booths, seeing first-hand how product applies and wears on your own nails before investing on it for your business.

4. Network, network, network!

If you’re a type A kind of person, it can be easy to get caught up in your schedule and plan. But don’t forget to take a moment to lift your head and look around. Trade shows are an amazing place to network, find a mentor and learn more about the incredible nail industry. Look for meet-and-greets or special events held by manufacturers. Talk to the other techs in your classes. If they’re hosting one, visit the nail competition arena. You never know what kind of information you can acquire and people you may meet.

5. Don’t buy everything.

It’s very easy to overspend at a show. After all, everything looks so enticing! But it’s really important to come with a budget and stick to it. Don’t get caught up in what everyone’s buying just for the sake of it. Stick with what you need first, and then browse through everything else. Keep track of the products you’re interested in and come back for them at the end of the day if your budget allows. A great way to make sure you’re staying on budget is to take out what you plan on spending in cash. When the money’s gone, it’s time to go home!
