Born in North Chicago, Nicki Wallner moved to Central Florida as a child and has called Florida home ever since. With a natural love for art, she decided to explore the beauty industry and received her nail license in 2006. After working as a nail professional for more than 10 years, Nicki joined the Artistic Nail Design team, where she shares her knowledge and skills with others, encouraging them to develop their own passion for the nail industry. She also opened her own custom-built salon suite in her home. “Working from home has allowed me to create a comfortable and inviting space for my clients while giving me the flexibility to expand my career as a nail artist,” she says. That career expansion includes taking first place in the Mixed Media category at Nailympia, receiving a scholarship from Beauty Changes Lives and then herself becoming a mentor for Beauty Changes Lives.
My first job in the nail industry was at a full-service salon and spa. I learned many lessons from the seasoned professionals there, beyond just new techniques, including time management, client care and problem solving. My time there helped lay the foundation for my career, and it continues to shape my approach to education and client care today.
Almond nails are my favorite nail style/shape, because they tend to flatter almost every hand. Almond nails can elongate the look of the nail bed even if you prefer your nails a shorter length.
Winning Mixed Media at Nailympia was a significant moment in my career. Having my work recognized by the industry’s best was incredibly rewarding and validated the time and dedication I’ve put into my craft. However, as an educator, the most fulfilling moments for me are when my students have their “aha” moment. While winning awards is a great honor, the true measure of my successes is in the growth and achievements of my students and mentees.
I’ve developed a love for audiobooks; they are the perfect companion while I’m creating content and exploring new art skills. My most recent favorite is the “Wheel of Time” series. The intricate plot and depth of the well-developed characters allowed me to become truly immersed in the story. It’s also empowering to see women characters depicted as capable, resilient and complex individuals.
We don’t get traditional fall weather in Florida, so one of my favorite things to do is take a vacation to experience the beauty of the season. I love to see the changing of the leaves and breathe in the crisp autumn air.
