The Power Of Pastels
Soft yet striking, pastels are making a bold comeback in makeup this season. This spring, we’re seeing a fresh, dreamy revival of color with pastel makeup taking center stage.

From soft lilac lids to dewy peach cheeks, these whimsical shades are transforming everyday beauty routines into playful works of art. But just because we’re talking soft pastels tones doesn’t mean looks are washed out. Instead, think modern finishes, bold pigments and pops of holographic shimmer. The best part of this trend is that it’s completely versatile and works for everyone, whether you go for an allover soft monochromatic glow or a pigmented pastel statement. Taylor Daniel of Morgan Taylor shares her best makeup tips that will help you embrace the light, airy tones of spring.

The Sci-Fi Era

Face: Fresh faces were seen on the Spring 2025 runway, and it makes for the perfect canvas for soft sweeps of color. The key to plump, dewy skin is prepping with nourishing skincare products. Top the high points of your cheekbones with a little holographic highlighter for added glow. “This is great for a fresh-faced night out or a special occasion where you want an alternative to a traditional heavy look,” offers Taylor.

Eyes: Pastel hues on eyes make a gorgeous impact, with a wash of color intensity over the entire lid, like we saw at Marco Rambaldi. Keep the look fresh and clean by skipping the eyeliner and mascara, so the focus is solely on the eyes. “Look for a color that complements your eye color,” Taylor suggests. “Blue eyes should look for soft oranges, green eyes opt for lavender hues and soft yellow looks amazing on brown eyes.” If an entire lid of intense color feels too much, “look for eyeshadows that have a soft pearl to them instead of pure mattes,” she says.

Cheeks: An easy way for anyone to add a touch of the pastel trend is through their blush. Use a neutral tone and diffuse it over the apple of the cheeks. Look for ones that have a slight shimmer to them. “This luminosity lends to the soft, playfulness of the pastel trend,” offers Taylor.

Lips: Pastels, while usually relegated to eyes and cheeks, even made an appearance on lips on the Spring 2025 fashion runways. Matte pastel pink on lips gave a futuristic feel at Sandy Liang. If that avant garde look is too much, you can make it more wearable by topping with a little gloss to make it less chalky. Or apply your favorite pastel tone and then blot with tissue for a softer effect.
